IllumiRate is an International editing community staffed by a great group of enthusiastic volunteers.

Our primary focus is to build a spam-free directory with the input of editors from many different backgrounds, nationalities, and walks of life. You are welcome whether you are new to directory editing or are a seasoned veteran!

As technology advances and draws the inhabitants of our Global Village closer together, we believe that the most productive way to illuminate the dark forest path that the internet has become is for our editors to work side by side to produce an easy to use directory and search engine that includes websites from all corners of our globe and in many different languages.

IllumiRate is also unique in that our editors have the ability to rate and write an opinion about every site they enter or that is already in our directory. As an editor, you will be able to light the way for those searchers lost in the tangle of the web by providing advice on content and functionality of sites you review.

In order to maintain a peaceful and happy community, we do have a few rules you need to know about which are listed below.

By submitting an editor application, you verify that you have read, agree to, and will abide by the following terms and conditions:

Volunteer Status: There is no payment for services or compensation for services rendered by IllumiRate editors. All sites added are contributions to the directory for the sole purpose of working to make a top notch, international directory.

Editor Age Compliance: In accordance with the Laws of the United States of America, and specifically the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, we cannot accept editors who are under the age of 13. Persons who are 13 years of age and older are welcome to apply.

Copyright Infringement:  All websites are the property of their owners and are copyright protected by law.  When suggesting/validating a description or opinion, you may not (1) copy sentences or phrases from the website being described; (2) from another directory or search engine; (3) from any other source UNLESS specifically set apart by use of quotation marks and/or attribution of the source.

Copyright infringement could possibly result in the criminal and/or civil prosecution of the owners of IllumiRate; therefore, it is expressly forbidden in any submissions to our directory.

Plagiarism:  Submitting an opinion or description as your own that can be proved to be someone else's work.  This includes (1) rejecting an editor's site description and/or opinion and then adding it as your own; (2) copying and/or rewording another editor's opinion or an opinion from another source and adding it as your own.

Multiple Identical Submissions: Submitting the same or essentially the same site URL and/or description and/or keywords and/or opinion for more than one site.  While we realize that it is sometimes difficult to describe multiple sites covering the same subject matter in completely unique ways, please do not submit duplicate descriptions, keywords or opinions for sites.  The best thing to do if you feel you are getting "burned out" on a particular topic is to move to another topic until the creative juices start flowing again.

Inappropriate Language & Pornographic Materials:  Use of profanity or off-color language will not be tolerated. Additionally, IllumiRate does not accept websites that contain or link to other sites that contain materials of a pornographic nature; nor do we accept advertisements that contain or link to sites that contain material of a pornographic nature. This includes, but is not limited to, sites where age verification must be submitted or where nudity is presented in such a way as may be deemed of a lewd, lascivious or sexually explicit nature for the purposes of titillation. This rule encompasses (1) submissions to our directory; (2) posts to our discussion forums; (3) comments/reviews/ratings entered on editors' infopages; (4) email sent to editors through the IllumiRate system; and/or (5) posting advertising materials that are in violation of this policy.

Harrassment and/or Abuse of Another Editor:  Our editors are expected to conduct themselves in a polite and constructively helpful manner when interacting with each other. Nasty, argumentative and/or threatening emails, comments on infopages, comments in ratings, instant messages and/or posts to the discussion forums are strictly prohibited.

Account Abuse:  Due to the nature of the advertising click-through program, (A) no person may have more than one (1) active editor account; (B) no editor may work alone or in tandem with another editor in order to defraud the system to gain additional click-throughs.  This provision will be strictly enforced.

Abuse of Email and/or the IllumiRate Email System: Sending emails through editors' infopages for any reasons other than those relating to editing at IllumiRate is forbidden.  Any editor who sends spam email to another editor through the infopage system or to email addresses obtained through contact with other IllumiRate editors will be terminated immediately.

Claiming to be a Representative of IllumiRate: No editor has any authority to claim to be an official representative of IllumiRate.com, its owners and/or agents.  Other than ability to place search boxes/banners or other materials which are officially distributed by IllumiRate.com, all other such representations are false unless authorized by express written consent of the owners and the person or persons who make such representations will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
